Are you thinking about buying the 3070 for mining? Wondering what the 3070s mining performance is and how it stacks up against other mining cards? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you might want to stick around.
In this 3070 mining review, I will discuss the 3070 mining performance, settings, profitability, and best coins to mine. By the end of this guide, you’ll have all the facts about these cards and whether or not it’s an excellent card to purchase for mining despite prices being way over MRSP.
3070 Mining Performance
When it comes to the mining performance of the 3070, it’s comparable to that of the 2080ti, which sells for 1299 USD, whereas the 3070 MSRP is much lower. Stock settings out the box the 3070 can mine Ethereum at 50 M/hs while drawing 203 watts. However, with the proper optimizations in settings, this card can mine at 60 M/hs while drawing a mere 130 watts.
Please note that your results may vary depending on the brand and manufacturer of the 3070 you purchase.
Compared to the RX 5700 XT from AMD, the 3070 hardly uses any more power, yet the 3070 crushes the 5700 XT when comparing mining hashrates.
3070 Mining Profitability
When it comes to the mining profitability of the 3070, it’s not as impressive as the 3080 or 3090 models in terms of daily profits. However, it’s priced much lower than the other models making it one of the best GPUs when it comes to price/performance ratio, aka best bang for the buck GPU. However, keep in mind that the price of Ethereum is currently on the rise, which makes mining profitability seemingly more lucrative..
3070 Mining Settings
Below is an image of the best OC mining settings I have found for the 3070 founder edition when mining Eth. Remember that the settings outlined in HiveOS need to be divided by two if you plan to use the same settings in Win10.
It is quite common to want to push your GPUs to the max when it comes to mining settings. However, I have found that by being a bit more conservative in my OC settings, I can have longer uptimes that are better, in my opinion.

Best Coins To Mine With A 3070
Its no doubt that Ethereum is one of the best coins to mine not only for the 3070 but most other mining cards as well. However, Ethereum mining is coming closer to an end as Eth 2.0 continues to roll out. With that said, I could easily see this card mining coins like Ravencoin and Beam as time passes. Check back with me as I will continue to update and create a list of the best coins to mine with the 3070.
Is The 3070 Good For Mining?
By now, you might be wondering if the 3070 is a good card for mining, right? Let me take a minute and do my best to explain my thoughts on the matter. Despite the 3070 not being as powerful as the 3080 or 3090 models, it still is one of the best mining cards around the $500 MSRP range.
With current mining profitability for the 3070 at 5 dollars a day on average and its MSRP price of $500, this card has one best price to performance ratio. However, the 3060ti has a similar hashrate with an even lower price point of around 400 dollars at MSRP, making it one of the best bang for buck mining GPUs in 2021.
However, just because the 3060ti has a better price to performance ratio doesnt mean you should ignore the 3070. I feel like I speak for every pro miner out there when I say either of the two models would make for a fantastic mining rig.
The biggest issue with both the 3070 and 3060ti is supply shortages and scalpers. This is primarily because these cards pose the fastest ROI times out of all the mining cards available on the market.
With demand for both these cards so high and supply being so low, you won’t have much luck being able to buy them anywhere near their MSRP prices. So, in theory, these cards are one of the best mining cards to buy in 2021 but given their popularity, you will likely pay a hefty premium to obtain them.
Amazon and Newegg are reselling 3070s for as high as 1200 dollars USD, which is way too much, in my opinion. As for me, I wouldn’t pay much more than 800 dollars for either model. After all, the whole point of mining cryptocurrencies is to turn a profit.
If you can find the 3070 at around 800 dollars USD, you might want to consider buying it. If it’s priced much more than that, I would suggest you look at other options or even look at purchasing some used GPUs like the 1070 or 2060 super, to name a few.

It’s clear why a gamer would seek this card for its insane performance, but the real question for miners is the 3080 a sound card for mining? Keep in mind that this card was released in Q2 of 2020 and had a base price of $699. However, scalpers and large-scale miners alike swarmed in to gobbled up the supply, and now the 3080 is being scalped for well over $1000.
Another thing to consider is there might be cheaper alternatives in the second-hand market, such as the Radeon VII, which mines Eth very efficiently. However, as most of us know, AMD architecture doesn’t perform as well as NVIDIA when it comes to most other algorithms. So there’s some room for debate on personal preference.
With all that said, I would say if you can find them in stock for around 1200 USD, then it might be a good choice. However, as the price of crypto soars, I suspect the prices on these cards to keep going up as well. Therefore I can not ethically suggest anyone pay those prices unless you’re in this for the long haul. And even then, it’s still a bit of a gamble.
Lastly, I will say that some models of the 3080 are not the same as others. For example, I have 2 3080 founders edition and 1 MSI 3080 Ventus 3x OC edition, and the Ventus 3x mines at a slightly lesser hashrate than the founders series. Other reports from miners suggest that some 3080 models need to have their thermal pads replaced and repasted to achieve 99 M/hs on Eth.
So far, I like the founder’s editions as they work flawlessly. I suspect that some of the other models will require additional tweaking and optimization to fix some of the thermal throttling issues. All in all, I think they are great cards and do believe as more drivers roll out for this series, you expect even better stability.
