1060 6GB Hashrate, Mining Performance, and Profitability Review

76 / 100

Out of all the GPUs to pick and choose from, the Gtx 1060 6Gb from Nvidia has been quite a popular choice. This card launched in late 2016 and wasn’t much of a contender when compared to AMD RX 480 and 580 8Gb series for mining Ethereum.

However, as Bitcoin price began to soar to new all-time highs in 2017 and AMD cards sold out, this card quickly became the best second option for mining.

For those new to mining, you might be wondering if the Gtx 1060 6Gb can mine bitcoin, and the answer is yes it theoretically can, but it is highly advised not to. Mining Bitcoin with a GPU has been a thing of the past; however, there’s still a plethora of other coins you can mine with this series of GPU.

So for this guide, I wanted to share my mining experience with this card and cover its hashrate, mining performance, and profitability.

Let’s get started.

1060 6GB Hashrate And Performance

The 1060 6Gb card can mine a wide variety of coins; however, most of its mining history lies in two main algorithms Ethash and Equihash. Please note that the hashrate and power consumption benchmarks listed below were achieved with optimized overclock settings.

Additionally, depending on the manufacturer, your results may vary. To achieve similar results, you will need to do your testing to find the best setting for your card. I also want to mention that you may see other reports of higher hashrates with this card, but in most cases, those results are unstable for long term mining stability.

1060 6GB Hashrate Ethereum

With overclocking settings applied, the 1060 6GB can mine Ethereum with a hashrate of 22.5 MH/S while drawing 90 watts total from the wall.

1060 6GB Hashrate Monero

The 1060 6GB is no longer a viable option to mine Monero due to the project switching its algorithm to a CPU mineable hash function. Therefore it’s best to mine Monero with a CPU and not a GPU.

1060 6GB Hashrate Zcash

The 1060 6GB can mine Zcash with a hash rate of 300-320 sols while drawing around 100 watts from the wall. Again results will vary depending on the manufacturer of the card and mining software utilized.

Best Coin To Mine With Gtx 1060 6gb

When it comes to finding the best coins to mine with the 1060 6GB version, there are several coins to pick and choose from. Back when this card first launched, most miners used this card for mining coins like Zcash. However, Zcash’s network these days is dominated by more advanced miners called ASIC’s and therefore its potential is best suited elsewhere.

Here is a list of some of the best coins to currently mine with the GTX 1060 6GB:

Ethereum– Ethereum has been a common favorite for a lot of different mining GPUs as it continues to be a top 10 coin to mine still to this day.
Ethereum Classic– ETC comes in as a close second of coins to mine with this card as it too is another top 10 coin to mine in 2020.
Grin– Grin uses a truly unique algorithm called Mimble Wimble and has quickly become a favorite fan coin to mine. Please note that Grin has different algorithms for different memory types. Therefore the 1060 6GB shows its best performance mining Grin with the Cuckaroom29 version of its algorithm.
Beam – Beam is another popular choice to mine with the 1060 6GB. Although it may not be as profitable as mining Eth the project is gaining momentum and appears to be here to stay.
In the end, these are just some of the coins you can mine with 1060 6Gb. Check out this list of coins here to get a detailed list of mineable coins.

Gtx 1060 6gb Mining Profits

At first glance, given the current market, the 1060 6GB might not be the most profitable GPU to use these days. At the time of this mining review being published and according to what to mine, the current profitability of the 1060 6GB is around .18 cents a day when mining Ethereum.

This is after electrical costs are factored in on a .10 cent rate. Please keep in mind that mining profits fluctuate daily based on factors such as price and mining difficulty. To see what the current mining profits are for 1060 6Gb, check out this link

Is Gtx 1060 Good For Mining?

Although the 1060 6Gb isn’t a top contender for our current list of best GPUs to use for mining, its still a card worth noting, over the last few years, I’ve had several mining rigs I’ve built with this series of cards and have been very happy with them.

One of the reasons I really like these cards is the fact they run rather cool and appear to be more stable than most other cards I’ve built rigs with. However, at the current moment, I wouldn’t go out and buy them brand new. The fact is that there are way better cards to purchase if you are looking to buy brand new.

On that note, I would suggest trying to pick these cards upon a second-hand market for around 100-120 dollar USD. If you have any concerns about buying second-hand mining GPUs, then be sure to check out our guide. Additionally, I would advise against purchasing any 1060 3Gb cards as they cant mine Ethereum due to their limited memory bandwidth.

Best GPU’s To Buy For Mining

As mentioned, the 1060 6Gb may not be the best card to buy brand new; we suggest buying it used. However, if you’re looking to buy some of the newest and best GPU’s for mining, here are our recommendations.
